HAYDEN - Dean Settle went to Las Vegas, won some money, and actually left the city with II it still in his P^J pocket. The unemployed Hayden construction worker won $20,000 in the first National League of Poker (NLOP.Com) Player's Championship at the Vegas Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on Saturday. "This helped," Settle said. "I can get caught up on some bills."
The online poker site is free to play, and he has been doing that plus some live poker with friends and at casinos for a couple of years. The online games are faster paced and a little looser to play, he said.
"Bluffing is hard to do online," he said. "You get called a lot. In person, you can kind of feel if a person is bluffing."
The NLOP Players Championship culminated a yearlong promotion held on the www.nlop.com site that had its players vying for and winning coveted seats to this year's event, where Settle earned the "Champion" title outlasting the other 96 seated players from 32 states.
Playing under the screen name "heckfuzz-izz," he finally came face-to-face with people he had been playing against for the past year. "It was neat to finally put faces with the names," he said.
